Indigo

WHEN NORDIC AND JAPANESE SENSIBILITIES TINTED A HOME.

Indigo brings Nordic and Japanese sensibilities together within a warm Mumbai apartment designed for a family of four. Both traditions share an appreciation for restraint, natural materials, functionality, and quiet detail, forming the foundation of a home that feels meditative without becoming austere. Bathed in daylight and framed by views of the city skyline, the interiors balance stillness with carefully measured moments of colour and character.

CONCEPT & EXECUTION

The deep, rectilinear blueprint is organised along a central axis, with an oakwood volume forming its spatial heart. Conceived as a slatted skin, this crafted core discreetly encloses the bar and guest bedroom while visually anchoring the apartment. Around it, whites, beige, black, and indigo establish a restrained palette, allowing texture, light, and materiality to take precedence.

A QUARTET OF COLOURS

Indigo appears sparingly yet purposefully through fabrics, wall finishes, installations, and collected objects. Against quieter neutrals, its contemplative depth becomes a recurring visual cue that stitches the home together.

SIT AWHILE?

The dining space becomes a celebration of gathering. A cantilevered Alaska marble table accommodates ten through six conventional chairs and four floor seats, borrowing from traditional Southeast Asian dining rituals to create a more informal experience of togetherness.

STILLNESS IN THE MINIMALISM

Private spaces continue the home’s function-forward approach through earthy tones, generous daylight, and tactile finishes. Fleeting accents of indigo punctuate this calm, lending each room subtle moments of surprise.

DYNAMIC NOOKS

The daughter’s bedroom shifts into a more playful register. A deep daybed and classic bunk bed introduce changing levels, creating multiple ways to read, lounge, rest, and inhabit the room while retaining the home’s larger language of considered simplicity.

I told MuseLAB that I wanted to feel like I am on vacation every single day - and they truly delivered.
