The (Colour) Partisan

The design of this apartment reflects simplicity and emphasizes on textures and tactility. The living dining area includes a bespoke blue tiled dining table with custom designed light fittings dropping down from the ceiling. There is no boundary between the living space and the multifunctional interior of the study / guest bedroom that doubles up as an additional space when entertaining friends and family.

Why the (colour) partisan you ask? The partisan is defined as an adherent supporter of a person, group, party, or cause, especially a person who shows biased emotional allegiance. The clients, a young affable couple are both ardent fans of colour and Leonard Cohen’s much beloved song, “The Partisan.”

Despite the minimalist mood, the apartment has been filled with objects, materials and colours that are based on the client’s tastes. Their personalities and context have been woven into the narrative. They both like reading, she likes writing and he likes art. She likes baking and he likes cooking. Thus, their study is their library, their sanctuary. All other spaces serve as a mini gallery holding art and quirky little accessories.

Most of the storage is built in to keep visual clarity. Accents of pine and teak wood with swathes of blue and yellow connect the various spaces. The master bedroom with a blue ceiling offers a sophisticated retreat for the owners, simpler in palette but enhanced with the detailing. A reading nook that you will never want to leave makes the most of the space by the window. Spectacular panoramic views of Mahim are framed and the much talked about Bandra-Worli Sea link.
