Light Play

This two bedroom apartment for a family of 4 was an interesting project. The brief here was, ‘keep it simple and straightforward.’  We took that literally and decided to keep the surfaces clean and simple with squirts of moments. This house receives great quality of daylight all through the day in each of it’s spaces from the living room to the bedrooms, which gave us an opportunity to play with light.

We began by designing a window grill (urban necessity) that abstracts the view outside and acts as a layer and not a barrier. This element set us in motion that is further carried through the apartment as it evolved into screens. A screen in the living room at the entrance for privacy and a second similar faceted screen behind the bar that screens of the bedrooms and the temple area. This play of light upon these surfaces within the apartment has been achieved by keeping the palette neutral with warm caramels and cool greys and by giving geometry to the screens. The gradients that are cast upon the screens influence the character of light within the space.
