Contemporary Traditional

An oncology surgeon, approached us to design and conceive his pet project - a HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) Clinic, an advanced centre for cancer surgery. The doctor’s only concern was that patients find it difficult or have little faith in a young doctor. The young doctor’s story resonated with that of our own – and that inspired us and formed the short but honest design brief for the consulting space.

So our proposal was equally simple – to emphasize on crisp details, against a palette of light neutral-colours accented by frosted glass partitions set and held within dark and clearly defined frames. Materials had to be chosen carefully and used in a way that is true to their inherent characteristics.

The space is blessed with abundant natural light, which we ensured penetrated through the entire space and that formed the basis of our organization of spaces. The reception area with a lowered ceiling and customized wall art is welcoming where as the waiting lounge with a higher ceiling and custom designed ring lights, with a clean and contemporary aesthetic reinforces and provides a sense of comfort and calmness. Filing cabinets and storage units too have been designed using neutral colours and their details defined and highlighted by emphasizing on the hand milled handles and naturally polished edges and trims.

In contrast to the contemporary, a vintage styled library unit with a bold screen pattern has been designed for the waiting lounge to underline and support the idea of a young but well versed practice. Within the doctor’s chamber; a traditional styled glass top desk has been finished with contemporary finishes and bold framework that defines the very nature of a certain and established practice.
